The Commission reviewed conceptual flood mitigation designs for Tufts Park and approved an expansion of the community garden. The body also finalized summer field permits and established a tournament fee for pickleball.
[Reggie Graham]: We're going to go through some data. And first thing I need to do is the approval of the March meeting minutes.
[Allan Martorana]: Motion for the minutes? Second.
[Reggie Graham]: All those in favor?
[Unidentified]: Aye.
[Allan Martorana]: Aye.
[Unidentified]: Aye. The meeting minutes for March are to approve.
[Reggie Graham]: Discussion on 2025. park permit revenue.
[Unidentified]: I don't know exactly what they would have in mind.
[Reggie Graham]: Do either of you have anything in regards to the park permit revenue? I don't, he sent us an email during the month and we didn't have anything to compare it to. So I don't know.
[John Curley]: No, the only thing Kevin wants to talk about during the park permits are that some of the permits might be a little less than normal, but it's because there are other fields like VSSC. might have a little less, but they're renting on it or not. So that's one thing he said they might ask questions about that. But he said the only thing he wanted to bring up you guys talked about is that numbers might be low, but they're renting other facilities throughout the metro.
[Reggie Graham]: So that's fine, I guess. But without him telling us exactly what he was going to talk about.
[Chris Murphy]: What was going to be going on, cable use for next month?
[Reggie Graham]: Absolutely.
[Chris Murphy]: Okay.
[Reggie Graham]: Great. So, in that light, I just want to let you guys know that, you know, being on the Community Preservation Committee, we had our annual hearing back last month, and I just want to take this little time out to let you know how much CPA revenue we received the open space last year. Fiscal year goes from July 1st to June 30th. Okay, so that would be what it was included in. And so subsequently, if you turn to, I think it's page four or maybe five, give you the distribution by the program area. Now there's three different, it's a pie chart. There's three different buckets that the CPA actually funds from the city of Medford. Historic preservation, affordable housing, and open space and recreation.
And the last year we had $2,419,800 of awards that we gave out And it's all broken down in the pie chart. So historic preservation got 1,155,300. Affordable housing got 625,000. And open space, which we are a part of, got 639,500. Now, I gave you this so that you can see what was included in those numbers. And it also gives you a number for fiscal year 22 through 26. Okay. So you can keep that and understand what we're doing. We'll go over to Steven to put the AP along, open space. Okay.
The Pickleball Court reservation for car park for tournaments. We talked about this last. I think it was a few months ago, right?
[Unidentified]: Black Fox. That's where I wanted to rent out the car park.
[Allan Martorana]: It's expensive. All right. For the rotary, right?
[Chris Murphy]: policies and then I'm done with this.
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah, so with the new pickleball court up at Top Hot, we're going to probably get some requests to rent the park out. This is not an unusual thing, but we rent out space, time for basketball, we rent out time and space for tennis and so on and so forth. So pickleball will probably be something that we're going to have to I'm thinking about. I don't know that we have any comparisons of the cities or anything of that nature. So what we probably want to do is find out what the other cities are charging and find out what we think would be appropriate for us to charge. I do know that I spoke to some people up there at Carpaw, and they said that they, it was a destination spot. And so people coming from, all over.
So if they're going to use the park for that, you know, to take out, I think this is a fundraiser, right? So, you know, we've got to make sure that we're charging appropriately because we're going to close down the park for a whole day in this particular instance. So I still think that we should probably do some reconnaissance as far as, you know, what other cities are doing and what have you.
[Chris Murphy]: I think Woobin's had courts, like dedicated courts for a while. They would probably be replaced. I think it's, you guys know what I mean? Woobin's had like dedicated courts for a while now. Like it probably dealt with this stuff.
[SPEAKER_06]: There's a weekly email that goes out to the state parking rack, and you can ask a question, which anybody can respond. So happy to throw out the question and see if any other communities want to provide feedback. Lexington does reservations, but it's individual reservations and not perch one lift.
[Chris Murphy]: I like the idea of trying to keep it to just like method, strictly method. non-profits working to do a fundraiser and not just Joe Schmo wants to do a pickleball tournament every Saturday for the month of July and just, you know, land it, you know, car park it, etc. I think I like the idea of trying to just say, okay, you know, we want to rent this out but it's got to be for, um, You know, we don't want you making money, and we don't want to do it to kind of, you know, normal people building a blanket, and to just impede people every Saturday from being able to go there and play.
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah, you know, usually our January meeting is the one meeting that we make changes to our rules and so on and so forth, but at the end of the day, we haven't had this I'm up, so yeah, what was that?
[SPEAKER_06]: I know we need tournaments for basketball. Do we have any guidelines for those rentals for like basketball tournaments that we could apply to say pickleball or do we think this is going to be a different ball game?
[Reggie Graham]: Well, you know, usually basketball nearly around three or four hours. This one's going to be for the whole day. It's a Hope Saturday, I believe it is.
[Chris Murphy]: I think it's a little different, but in a sense, we have how many basketball courts we have in the city of Barrie, or the top two of Thunder, you have Morse, and you have, I think just about every major park in the city has a basketball court, but there's one pickleball, with one dedicated pick-it-all. So it's not like, all right, kids want to play basketball, they can't play, it doesn't pop for them, but they could go replace them, or they could go to Baton Rouge, or they could go to Morrison, or they could go to Cobb. But Cobb probably won't have two full basketball courts. I think that's the only thing I could bet that would put us in kind of like a different situation, is that we don't have anywhere else to sign.
[Reggie Graham]: So I think that for Mr. Minichiello, right, for this particular one, since it's our first one, we haven't had any others, what we should probably do is take an example from the basketball and we'll charge him $25 for the day, all right? He said he wanted to put up some signs. But the signs that he's going to be able to put up are the ones that go in the ground. You know, the small... I don't want him putting signs up on the fences and so on and so forth. I'd like to have him put them in the, you know, the small little signs that go in the grass. Yeah. So you can put one on each end of the...
I think there's two entrances to that fiddle ball court, right? So we can put one at either entrance. That should be sufficient, because social media is going to probably be his major method of getting people in and out. So $25 goes in the notes for the charge. All right? Are we all in agreement? Yeah. $25? He's giving the money back to him. We'll make a hard and fast rule next time, next meeting. Yeah, I think it's time.
[SPEAKER_06]: We'll send an email and see if people respond.
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah, to find out what everybody else is charging. Because I really don't want to be, let's go to Method. It's going to cost us $25. And now we get to keep the money. You know, you don't want that. All right, so that's that. What's next? Next, uh, request from Brooks Elementary. There's teacher organization for one on the one who passed donation for spring three year events. I think we've given them one of those every year. Yeah, it doesn't cost us anything, but anybody have any ideas on that? Any thoughts? You go to that exit, please. All right, so, um, One pond pass, one pool pass will go to the Brooks Elementary Parents Teachers Organization.
Let's keep a note. What's that? I said, there'll be one pool pass and one pond pass that will go to the Brooks Elementary. Yeah. Because I know you're not going to remember this tomorrow. I'll have to talk to you again. Listen, I'm not going to remember any of this. Discuss the draft of the conceptual design of Tufts Park submitted by Horsley, Witten, Luke, Nick? Yes. Step right up. All right.
[SPEAKER_26]: Can we join you at the table? Sure. My colleague Shannon, who's from the Mystic River Watershed Association.
[SPEAKER_10]: Hello, Kim Adams. I know I've seen you before. We've met a lot of times. Oh, yeah. How are you doing? I'm good.
[SPEAKER_26]: All right. All right. So thanks for having us. My name is Nick Cohen. I am a consultant for the Horton-Whitten Group. We're working with the Mystic River Waterfill Association and the City, as well as other cities, on designing some sites that are flood-prone, which I'll get to in a second. But just as a broader context, the Mississauga Watershed Association has a grant for eight different municipalities that have flood prone sites. And there's one site in each municipality that's being looked at for potential designs that could improve the flooding and then improve the sites more broadly. So we're here to talk about Tufts Park, that's the site for Medford. So I'll talk about the concept in just a second. Shannon from the Michigan Watershed Association is doing a lot of engagement around the site, which I understand. So it's opinions, interests in the site, and that's what we're using to inform our design, which I've covered, copied, I'll show you. So, Shannon, do you want to talk about kind of what you've heard from folks and what Mayra was doing, and then I can talk about the nuts and bolts a little bit?
[Shannon Collins]: Sure, perfect. Yeah, so my secret watersheds, we volunteer cleanups, we do education in schools, and we also do some finding projects like this. So last year, an example in West Medford, we did a similar process where we were just trying to see what some opportunities were for students along the West Medford shoreline. And then while we're looking at the environmental side of it, we're asking community members, like, okay, if we're doing this work because we have benches, more trees, what does the community want to see? And so this is a similar idea where it's early stages. We're just working with some engineers, trying to see what the flooding is happening at Tufts Park. And then at the same time, it's my job to talk to residents and see, okay, what are you guys actually experiencing? Like, talk to the neighborhood, talk to the people who are using the park every day, and then get their experiences with flooding and other things. Like, if it's too hot at the park, like, um, there are different uses. We're going to come to the garden commission there. People use the field, stuff like that. And then bring together all that information with the engineers to say, okay, here's the situation. Here's what we want to do. What can we do to bring the best benefits to people in the area? So. Yeah, we did a quick check-in with people last fall talking about, have you seen flooding here? A lot of people told us they used to play in the mud at Tubbs Park when they were growing up, stuff like that. And now we're going to come back in a couple weeks when it's hopefully nice out and we can set up in the park and talk to a lot of people. Kind of like how you did the park vision survey and kind of just generally say, okay, like how often do you use the park? What do you like to do here? What would you hope to add to the park if you had the opportunity? And then also worked with Amanda Centrella from the city, because they're hoping to do something similar with the playground in Top Spark. So while we can talk about how to use the paths and the fields and the trees, they're going to do a similar thing with the playground and try to talk to the schools and the family. So yeah, that's the overview we're doing at early phase, trying to talk to a lot of community members. But Nick has a lot of the technical stuff that we want to ask you to do.
[SPEAKER_26]: Yeah, so let me it looks like you guys have a smaller copy of the 2nd plan, but I'll just talk about the 1st 1 week because I think that's near the look at. And like Shannon mentioned, these are very preliminary. Nothing is set in stone by any means. It's sort of a first pass at a concept for the design. So if you look at the cartoony one first that has my coloring on it, my bubbles, that's the broad concept that we're working with. The idea here is to address flooding using The edges of the park with some vegetation and some redesigned vegetation that would absorb water and then some underground tanks and underground infrastructure under the fields. I can talk more about that, but I think this group's probably most interested in kind of recreational side of things.
And the second. Drawing that you have is our engineers and let's get our next playing with the orientation with field and that's what we definitely want to get your input on in just a minute about how folks are using these fields, what the dimensions need to be so that we can kind of factor that in the one with the pink. field on there was just kind of a first pass at how we could maybe fit into large fields and reorient fields to be as efficient as possible, while also adding some other amenities around the park. Let me just say too, like Shannon was saying, we understand that there's work going on at the playground potentially, there's the Milwaukee Forest project that we know about, so we're certainly trying to kind of fit around the work that is already going on in Medford, certainly trying to augment that, not take away from that or over overshadow any of that. So you'll notice hopefully I'm going to design the idea to kind of fit in with what's already kind of planned there for other areas of the PUP.
So I'm happy to talk about any of the specifics, but I thought for this group, maybe the most important thing to kind of understand from our perspective is how folks use the fields and what dimensions are key for us to know about for those softball fields. For reference, the pink drawing, You'll see, I think, that there's 250 center field lines on there. The smaller one in the corner has a distance of 200 feet. And then the baseline varied between 65 and 60. And I know some of those distances are really important to get right for certain leaps. So that's what we want to understand and then tinker based on your input. And then any other general info is certainly great. But maybe we'll start with the fields.
[Chris Murphy]: So we'll take both the polygon infrastructure on the ground, how long would the field be unusable?
[SPEAKER_26]: You mean after like a rain?
[Chris Murphy]: No, when you do the construction. Oh, I see.
[SPEAKER_26]: Yeah, so we're still working out kind of construction phasing and the timing and cost and all those kinds of details. So, like any other infrastructure project, it would be, you know, taking the field offline to put in the infrastructure and then once it's in, it's a field, you would necessarily know that there's all that stuff in the ground.
[Chris Murphy]: I mean, my thing, I know that We have a lot of baseball fields, but we don't have a lot of softball fields. So for me, priority would be to keep it to the two. I mean, I know one of the fields is unusual, but I would like to try and keep three softball fields if possible, just because, again, I know other than Tufts Park, we just have Columbus Park and McNally Park. So, to hitchhike on what you said, just to give you a little background, I am higher than what I used to be. I don't anymore.
[Reggie Graham]: Where field one is now, field one would be the one that's closest to the basketball court. It's the one that floods the most, all right? Primarily the infield, a little bit of the outfield. I don't know how much dirt, ground, and loam that you'd have to put in there to absorb some of that. right now, okay, but it seems as though it's concave. Okay, so it's concave in that area. A little history of the park, over there in the, if you're looking at the map in this fashion, on the top right-hand corner used to be the pool, that used to be the pool. No, it's utilized right now as a dock-walking park.
And I don't think that your actual drawing takes that into, it doesn't include that part of the park, so that's fine. But around the edges of the park, I don't see that there's a flooding problem, if you will. Rainfall specifically goes to field one, a little bit of field two. Field three is pretty dry, actually, if you want to call it field three. And field four used to be over here in the top there, but they've gone down, because we've actually done several years.
[Chris Murphy]: I know based off of 30 years of youth softball that the field closest to the parking lot is the least used by the public because of the issues with the flooding and the blitzkriegs. Which part of the world? By the basketball court.
[John Curley]: The one closest to Main Street.
[Chris Murphy]: The two, I would say, most used fields right now for the whole of East Southwest are the ones in the far parking lot and the one next to the Templeton.
[SPEAKER_26]: Are you showing the baselines of what's there? On the second drawing, they're, just for demonstration purposes, they're 60 feet and 65 feet. The field one, it looks like it's 60. Field, the one to its bottom right is 60. And then the one he said it used the most is 65. But that can be shifted a bit, depending on the orientation. I guess one key question is, so having three fields is like a must, it sounds like. No.
[Reggie Graham]: No? OK. No. I mean, you know, the thing is, is that Softball isn't as famous as it used to be, okay? The ranks are really, not girls softball.
[SPEAKER_02]: Adult softball. Adult softball, this is our primary field to have two games going on at once. And then youth softball, this is one of their most popular fields that we use.
[Reggie Graham]: Like I said, other than this field. But having four fields is not necessary. Having three fields is probably okay, but I'd rather have two good fields. I'm talking about good fields, whereas, you know, even if you have to back them up with the outfields touching each other, you're not going to have that much of a uh, disruption, you know, during the game, you know, all the ball went into the other field and so on and so forth. I mean, you know, I don't think that that's going to be, this is going to be a large field, to be honest with you. So I don't think that, uh, that's going to be as big of an issue as putting in three fields and trying to, you know, mesh them all together. And I don't know, just seems that way to me.
Who uses a space core as a method, JB?
[Chris Murphy]: JB uses Tufts. Yeah.
[SPEAKER_26]: So I've heard adult leagues, girls' little league, is that the right league? Not necessarily girls, just adult. Oh, yeah. And then the JD high school.
[SPEAKER_30]: JD high school and then Medford Youth Softball also uses that field.
[SPEAKER_10]: Medford Youth Softball. You know, what's left of it.
[Reggie Graham]: I don't even know if they've actually had a league for the past two years, anyways. But you boys, you know, know them. Right? He's retired, right? But he hasn't had a league in the past two years, so. You know, I don't, I can't see them reviving it, you know, it's just become a, as far as the men are concerned, it's become a, you know. Young men don't, you know, these young guys don't want to do it. Young guys don't play softball. There's a rule.
You know, you, very seldom, I mean, you know, very seldom do young guys play softball. They play baseball. They play baseball on first week. That's okay. You're not a young guy anymore. That's true. This is true.
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like a big picture like process question and it might be before my time. Did the city initiate doing this research and do we have funds allocated to proceed with the project?
[Shannon Collins]: So the Mississippi River Watershed, which I work for, has a regional collaborative with 20 other cities and towns in the area. And Medford has been part of our stormwater working group for a bunch of years. So my job has been to coordinate that. And those yearly meetings with people asking, hey, what's going on in your town? Do you have flooding? Do you have extreme heat? And how can we help you out? So through those meetings, we identified Tufts was a good opportunity to have this conversation. And then we would help. find future grants and things like that, because it doesn't do its job very much. Josh and Jules.
[Allan Martorana]: The one question I have, you asked a lot of this.
[SPEAKER_26]: Yeah, I think at this point, I think we heard the preference was grass. But if there is interest in artificial, our team can look at that and look at the pros and cons of either. Or I think we heard from city officials that preference was for peat and grass, but that's certainly not set in stone.
[Reggie Graham]: Oh, I don't know. I mean, I guess if they're going to act, you know, if they ask us, you know, I don't know which would be the preference. I mean, I think if you were playing, you'd rather play on grass.
[Unidentified]: Yeah.
[Reggie Graham]: But if you have to, if you have to maintain it, you're going to have some sort of, you know, say, artificial turf. So I guess it would be six or one and a half dozen or other, but I don't know what the, the ratio we face, to be honest with you. And then we see some of these other parks in these other cities and, you know, some of them are grass and some of them are artificial turf and so on and so forth. Some of them, you know, they take the whole infield and just make it dirt, okay? You know, and theoretically there's not supposed to be a mound in softball. So, you know, it's just the dirt infield and then, Once the outfield starts, it becomes turf. And even the foul ground stays grass, you know, so. I don't know.
[SPEAKER_26]: You have other questions for us? Specific? Yeah, the other thing we just want to make sure we have is if there are other planned improvements for the park that you all are familiar with other than some of the items we mentioned, the playground, the Milwaukee Forest. Not, sorry.
[Chris Murphy]: Just the lighting.
[Reggie Graham]: Discuss the lighting. There was some money allocated for the lighting on Park 2. No, Field 2, sorry. But then we heard about some of the recommendations for the field. So we didn't know exactly, you know, how it was going to play out versus, you know, versus what you guys plan, when you plan it and so on and so forth. What do you plan to do with it? Is it this year, next year, 28, you know, so.
You really like, you know, put everything together before we actually make some kind of a determination.
[SPEAKER_26]: Yeah. Yeah. And this is, I think, a longer term. project than something that would, if the city already had money for other things. So that's why we're talking about trying to kind of fit around other things that are going on. We wouldn't want to get in the way of something that's moving forward, like the playground in the Milwaukee Forest. If there's an opportunity to coordinate, we certainly would want to. And like Shannon was saying, the idea here is the grant that we're working on here funds the design. And then I know the Mystical Watershed Association is working with Medford on identifying other grant opportunities for the actual potential construction or taking the design farther. So that's you know, a process that is multi-years in the future. So if there's other things happening or ideas for the park that are in the works, we want to make sure to know about them so we don't get in the way of kind of interfering with that stuff that's maybe moving forward.
[Reggie Graham]: Well, I would venture to guess that the new playground would probably not interfere with what they're trying to do because it's, you know, it's offset. Right. It's not in the way, if you will. Yeah.
[SPEAKER_26]: Yeah. No, I think this is very helpful. If there's anything else from you all that, you know, looking at the first drawing or the dimensions that jump out at you, we definitely want to make sure that you hear that feedback. And if you think of it after the meeting, and probably best to leave the chat. We can chat on anything. And it's definitely, I want to emphasize, this is draft initial first kind of draft. So if you're looking at this, you know, we need four field or this should be soccer. I mean, that might be an extreme change. There's definitely opportunities to tinker and keep refining this as we go.
[Reggie Graham]: I think we have enough areas that are dedicated to soccer, so I don't think that soccer would be a thing that we want to put at Tom's Farm. What we've found is that we're having an awful lot of ultimate frisbee. And so subsequently, you know, it would probably be best if you keep as much outfield space as possible. For that, you know, I think you could probably put two ultimate frisbee groups side by side in the outfield if there was no softball going on. So I think that's the only other. Can you all think of anything else?
[SPEAKER_26]: You guys were the softball coaches, right? You were. So is there anything in terms of just the dimensions, like the 65-foot bases and the 75-foot bases or the 250-foot that's like a must for the leagues that use this?
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not positive about adult versus like high school level. Yeah.
[SPEAKER_30]: But on the second page... Yeah. But this one is where... This one is for us. OK. And then these two back to back, that bigger space right there, those two are adults. Yeah.
[SPEAKER_26]: But it sounds like all of those different leagues are wanting to use this field. So having that flexibility to have youth and adult, it sounds like it's better.
[Reggie Graham]: Well, we'd really like to have some bases that are permanent, even if you had Go from 60 to 65. You know, you can take it out and bump it out to the 65 if you wanted to. That's something that we could probably use. And a double bass on the first bass. Just because. Safe key.
[Shannon Collins]: Thank you.
[John Curley]: This is really helpful. Thank you.
[Shannon Collins]: Yeah, we'll keep you posted, too. And we'll gather more information and talk with you. Yeah, yeah.
[SPEAKER_26]: This doesn't have to be the last conversation about the project. I appreciate it.
[Allan Martorana]: Thank you.
[Unidentified]: Thank you. Take care.
[Reggie Graham]: Yes. Just one last question for you, for you, Stupak. uh, facilities. Yep. You include those in your plans?
[Allan Martorana]: Uh, you mean like bathroom facilities? Yeah. Um, I don't know if we, I don't think we did. Um, the folks currently use like the pool or the- The pool's not open every- Not open. Okay. Not all the time. Yes. It's actually a nice- It's a softball, it's a boardwalk.
[Reggie Graham]: So having like a dedicated restroom would be a- Well, you know, something that if it, you know, we would want to have one for each. You know, one for the males and one for the females. And I had given your boss some examples. I looked at them a lot, but there's a couple up in North America that actually have some nice concepts. upstore facilities that don't want, excuse me, I should have made that up. It's all in Chippewa.
[Shannon Collins]: Okay, does Carl accept those facilities? Huh? Carl, Mr. Burwood? Yes. Okay, yeah, we hear that a lot of people say that that's the number one thing they would want.
[Reggie Graham]: You know, some of our parks, like Duggar Park, Placeland Park, they might have a Port-a-Potty, but maybe they don't. It's not, you know, teens come into those, you know, especially with the ones that are used by high schools, you know, teens come in there, get off the bus. And I don't know about most folks, but, you know, sometimes it's like, that's the first place you want to, you're looking for, you know, you're not looking at, you're looking for something.
[Shannon Collins]: Yeah. And you can say a lot, too.
[Reggie Graham]: I would, I would, put that somewhere in the notes. So we get them thinking about it anyway. Thank you. All right. So we're going to, we're going to regress a little bit. We're done with you.
[SPEAKER_13]: You know what I mean? I'm improved. I can sign out of town and put a signage up and We talked about that.
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah, well, we did. Yes, we did. We're going to charge you $25 for the day. That's fair. Thank you. I appreciate that. All right. Yep. Signs that you have have to be the ones that go in front. Yeah, right. Yeah, we talked about that. That thing came around, yes. Right? And we'd like to have them just at the front and the two gates there, right? Yeah. So, I mean, I would imagine particularly that most of you are participants from social media, right?
[SPEAKER_23]: Yeah, social media. I mean, I play with a lot of people anyway, so just talking about the tournament, I can talk it up now. It's almost officially going to happen. And you're OK with me doing a Duggar and just the... Besides? Yeah, besides. And I want to put him in Duggar, too, because a lot of people play there. Just get the word out, hey, pick-a-ball tournament coming up. Sure. When you're ahead of the game. All right, awesome.
[Reggie Graham]: We took care of it in your absence. I appreciate that. Thank you. All right. Have a great night. All right. Take care. The next thing on the agenda is a request from the Garden Commission. And so subsequently, I think we saw some plans, but we have missed two parts here.
[Theresa Dupont]: Hi, Lisa DePak, Community Preservation Act Manager for the City. I think I've met most, I think you're new. I'm here today supporting the request from the Community Garden Commission. They came to CPA to seek some funding to expand the existing community garden at Fox Park with the new basketball courts that went in. A little space was freed up, so now it's just like this little strip of dead space and they want to kind of be stewards for that face and expand the environment by adding 10 beds to it. Here tonight, the funding was contingent upon just getting approval from the Parks Commission. And going forward, what they'd like to do is kind of establish an order of operations, like, should we come to the Parks Commission first before seeking funding? You know, a lot of projects, they do both at the same time, because you never know if you'll get permission or funding. So I think what they want to do going forward, if this commission agrees, is come to you all first. But we all want to seek funding.
[Chris Murphy]: with them rather than come to us before they ask for money, because I think, especially with the last issue with Pat and Pat, I think if we had done that before they had asked for money, we probably could have solved a lot of headaches. And that's just my personal preference. Hopefully they come to us and we could work on it. Especially if they have an idea for a big project, they do all this work and they get this big project, and then they go ask for money, and then they come to us and say, all right, And then we're like, well, not exactly.
[Reggie Graham]: I think we're compromised in that equation, if you will. Theoretically, by statute, we're supposed to be the ones that put anything in any park, including the ones from your department. If you must know, I think that what Chris is trying to say is that, yeah, we should be the one to initiate the ability to put anything in any park, including the community garden. We've gone backwards, and so, you know, I don't think anybody has any objections to that, as long as we know what's going on, and we're the first ones to get in touch and say, okay, thank you very much, You know, they came to us twice, maybe three times. And, you know, they came to us and they said, well, we have X amount of people that we want to put in to Barry Park because they're concentrated over there and so on and so forth. And that was fine. You know, we didn't have any problems with that, but they'd already gotten the money. Okay. And so, you know, how can we probably say, well, no, we don't want to give you the space when you've already got the money. You know, we're breaking somebody's heart.
[Chris Murphy]: I think I'm not being negative. They had sent us, we had ideas about, well, we put all this work in. I'm like, this is the first time I'm hearing about it. And then we're the ones that get the phone calls from the residents and all that. that that's it would just be nice to be or we do all this work to create plans to just be involved in the early stage of it rather than say all right we've done all this work and then yeah go ahead you know we should just approve it.
[Theresa Dupont]: Yeah, there's very much a desire from the garden commission as well to do that. I'm not making excuses. It has been quite a while since a new garden was established. There's some new leadership on the garden commission. So I think this was just a gap in their understanding of the process, but they're super on board with coming to y'all first saying, like, hey, we have an idea that they are continuing to try and find new locations. This was a great project because it's adding 10 beds without really changing the footprint or impact on the park usage. So I want to applaud them for their ability to be creative with trying to add more beds.
But yes, going forward, they also agree that coming to this board first saying, hey, we have an idea, pitfalls, challenges, ideas, you got to support this, and then going from there.
[Reggie Graham]: So the only question I guess I have is, like, how does this project kind of, like, go against this one, right? It doesn't. It really doesn't. To be honest with you, I will tell you this. This rendition that they have here is pretty nice, okay, because right now they've got 21 beds. Okay, all the ones that are in there now, there's 21 beds. This is smuggled behind the basketball court Okay, so this is the only thing that changes if you don't mind The only thing that changes is a little red square down here Right now that's empty. That's dead space. Okay, so what they want to do is they want to extend the fence down at the bottom where the gate is and and actually put four beds there and then one in the pathway pretty much, and then five beds along the edge of the fence. So it'll come out to be 31 beds rather than 21.
I don't know how many people actually go into the new beds in six weeks, but.
[Theresa Dupont]: I was gonna say, I believe they already have seven people in the neighborhood saying, yes, I'll take it. So at least without, yeah, without their really, advertising it too much. So those beds will be very much filled.
[Unidentified]: Yeah, I'm sure they will be. And the community garden, what are they used for? You don't have a garden in your house, and you want to plant some stuff?
[Theresa Dupont]: Well, it's a little bit of that. It's a great community gathering space. I myself am not part of a garden, but two of my friends are, and I piggyback with them. And it is kind of a nice, unique community of folks. But yeah, there's certainly, especially in South Medford, there's so many rental multifamily units that people just don't have outdoor space. So yeah, it's folks growing vegetables, flowers, community. A lot for personal use? Oh yeah, these beds are small, so it's not like anybody's out there like, growing my pumpkin patch, this is how I'm making money. You know, it's very much home grown.
[Reggie Graham]: It seems like Tufts has more flowers than than vegetables, to be honest with you. Yeah, I agree with that. I think some people will probably have an idea with the concept of putting a private garden in a public park, but we've established that already, so that's already been answered. So essentially, what we as the commission have to do is make sure that we put in the best places in the parks. And of course, you know, we do have an awful lot of inactive parks, okay? Parks that don't have basketball, baseball, you know, soccer and things of that nature. And I think maybe, you know, moving forward, we might try to, steer them towards the inactive parks so that they're not taking up space where, you know, there's an awful lot of activity or so what have you. I would think that they'd want to do that anyway because they don't really want anybody wandering through their gardens and so on and so forth, jumping the fence and picking their tomatoes and what have you.
[Chris Murphy]: I think the first thing to think about is also the convenience.
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_10]: You know, passive parks aren't really convenient for Asians. But at the end of the day, that's why we pass them on the other side.
[Theresa Dupont]: I will say the Garden Commission has been exploring options because again, they've got a massive wait list right now. It's at least two years for people to work through that, if not more.
[Chris Murphy]: When you get a bed, is there like a timetable on that bed? Or once you get the bed, Like say if I got a bed tomorrow I'm 40, I can have that bed for 35 years or do I have that bed for like a step period of time?
[Theresa Dupont]: Certain gardens are starting to pilot moving people. through and out, like Winthrop Street, for instance, they used to have just, everybody had this big plot, their bed was this massive, so they divided it, so now everybody has money to try and work people through the system, because they recognize that that has been an issue. People have been staying in garden beds for seven, eight months. They can be there for- Right.
[Reggie Graham]: The thing is, we don't really have anything to say about that. Once we give them the space, I mean, you know, their rules apply, you know? So, I mean, you know, as much as we would like to see, maybe in the beginning, if we had said something like, oh, I don't agree. We're just reading something else. end of the day, if we had done this at the beginning, and we said, oh, we want to establish some ground rules so that it's a rotating basis, that would have been a different story. But we didn't do that. So since we didn't do that, we're out of luck.
[Theresa Dupont]: That is something that they're actively working through. I believe they asked for volunteers and people saying, hey, you've been here a while. I wouldn't anticipate and I think this is being optimistic to say more than one garden per year and honestly that seems a little optimistic maybe one garden every other year just because these are the same as you all volunteers you know so it's a lot of work to put on the backs of folks. trying to change one of these up. For sure. Yeah. So again, I don't want to commit to their on their behalf, but I wouldn't anticipate more than one of these per year, if not half of like the average probably is 0.5 for everything.
[Reggie Graham]: As long as it comes to us first, we'll place it accordingly. I'm happy to do that. I will take a motion. Motion to approve. I have two questions. Oh, pardon me, I'm sorry.
[SPEAKER_05]: It's okay. How long has the Tufts Garden been there, if you know? And then have there been concerns in the neighborhood?
[Reggie Graham]: At least 10 years. Yeah, I said 15. Okay, well, at least that's the least. Yeah, we're both right. Yeah, so at least 10. And the only real complaints is the vermin. And that's everywhere. I mean, you know, but I think they've done a pretty good job of it. at least while there are people there. You know, I don't think, you know, you're going to go down there and see a, you know, a hoard of rats down there.
[Chris Murphy]: This one will run down. It's definitely exceeding the age, but I think, I would assume, them doing this, it'll spruce it up and make it a little more diverse.
[Theresa Dupont]: When you first park there, you see that chimney fence that's been backed into and snow plowed up against it. Kind of looks like an old Western, yeah.
[Reggie Graham]: You know, the last thing I want to say about this is that DPW has indicated that that part in particular needs to be tended to by themselves and their representative. Would you tell them that their guidance have to be tended to, particularly if they're in public thoughts? Um, answers.
[SPEAKER_04]: Okay. All right.
[Reggie Graham]: I'll explain motion. Motion to approve. Okay. All those in favor? Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye.
[SPEAKER_10]: Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye.
[Theresa Dupont]: Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye.
[SPEAKER_10]: Aye.
[Theresa Dupont]: Aye.
[Reggie Graham]: Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye.
[Theresa Dupont]: Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye. Aye
[Reggie Graham]: Thank you all. Thank you, Teresa. OK.
[Unidentified]: I'm in third, I'm in 11th. Last in the list.
[Reggie Graham]: Last in siege.
[Unidentified]: Can you allow that for a minute?
[SPEAKER_22]: That's me. I was here last month. Once again, we are a women's division frisbee team and we would like to request field space for weekends in for the summer up until September. I sent Kevin the specific dates, but this would be placed at Lower Park and at Victory Field on Saturday evenings and then placed at Lower on Sunday mornings. Wait, sorry, could you guys hear me?
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah, we can hear you. We're looking at your application. Oh, okay.
[Unidentified]: Odysseys from four to six.
[John Curley]: They teach you how to deal with justice.
[Allan Martorana]: I guess it doesn't matter. Yeah, especially if you've been fighting since the old days.
[John Curley]: Christine, can you pull up the camera? We have something going on. What you're trying to say, I think, is that Odyssey has a permit right here, and they're asking for the same time. So, Odyssey has it for a couple of days. It's got the same set.
[Chris Murphy]: Yeah, that's not a big word. I said lower. Do we have soccer? That's what happens. We already had something booked. Does this soccer usually take that on Sundays?
[Reggie Graham]: I'm not sure.
[Unidentified]: That's why I asked where the calendar was.
[Allan Martorana]: Oh, you know something? That seems like you might have. Can you come back next time? Me or Odyssey? Sorry, I can't see you guys. I'm a little confused about...
[SPEAKER_18]: What's happening?
[SPEAKER_22]: We're just discussing it right now.
[SPEAKER_18]: I'm also here from Odyssey if you need to discuss anything further as well.
[Unidentified]: I'm trying to pick up a method. But.
[Allan Martorana]: You can go on your website. Yeah, it's in there.
[Unidentified]: I see.
[SPEAKER_10]: Is that true? Yes. This starts the 13th.
[Unidentified]: This request starts in May.
[Reggie Graham]: Saturday has a conflict. So maybe we want to go for, if she wants to go from four to six. And then if she wants to go from three to six. And they both want a victory pop.
[SPEAKER_06]: when one returns. I don't.
[Reggie Graham]: I don't want to sleep. I don't want to lie. Honestly, I don't want to lie.
[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah, honestly, I mean, are there any other fields available during that time that have at least, you know, 70 yards or that that are about football field size or no? Because I mean, she isn't necessarily married to that park, but we just do need a certain amount of space for practice.
[Reggie Graham]: Morrison. Morrison. Yeah. From June to September. Do we have anything on Saturdays? That's May.
[Allan Martorana]: But we will have had June.
[Reggie Graham]: Nothing. Nothing on Saturdays, right? Or Sundays.
[Unidentified]: She'd go all the way to September, it looks like.
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah. Yeah. So nothing in June. Can we go to July? Nope. Nothing in July. What about August?
[SPEAKER_29]: Nothing August.
[Reggie Graham]: Nothing in August.
[SPEAKER_29]: September.
[Reggie Graham]: And this is the only time that she's looking for. Saturday afternoon from 3 to 6. Sunday. season.
[Chris Murphy]: All look of the Saturday on her email on Sundays. This is an email and follow up. That's true. But she's looking for a place that you have Sundays 9 12 6 14 21 7 12 8 9 8 39 21. Yeah, we are looking for some some Sundays from nine to noon. Um, I'm glad about soccer place.
[SPEAKER_22]: So
[Reggie Graham]: So we can give her a modicum on Saturdays. On the previous day. On the previous day, right? Yeah. Let's look at... Let's look at... Thursday. Thursday. Can we look at Thursday, please? What's that? Lower field. Lower field, Saturdays. Thursday and Friday. Sunday.
[SPEAKER_04]: People on Sunday. This request says 9 to 12 on Saturdays.
[Chris Murphy]: The email says Sunday is 9 to 12, Friday is Saturday.
[Unidentified]: So Saturday, they were asking for her to go to church. Well, it's the Humbartas who's looking for her. Yeah, it's a place to vote on things, yeah. Where do we have a place to vote?
[SPEAKER_10]: This way. Right here.
[Unidentified]: Go ahead. Sick.
[SPEAKER_21]: So Kayla, your email says Sundays, but your request says Saturday.
[SPEAKER_22]: Oh, for Playstead. Sorry, sorry, sorry. The email was correct. For Playstead, I meant for it to be Sundays 9 to 12. I'm sorry about that. No worries. Yeah, Sundays 9 to 12, and then Saturdays 3 to 6 at Victory. I mean, if Playstead were available on Saturdays from 3 to 6, we would be happy to do that, but I know that I think that there's a conflict there.
[Allan Martorana]: So this is June. Okay.
[Reggie Graham]: What are we looking at? 9-12. 9-12.
[Chris Murphy]: And what do we have on Sunday?
[Reggie Graham]: 9th of June, soccer 8-2 and C&H, Frisbee 9-12. Oh, she's already put it in. Yeah. So he must think that Salk is going to use the upper field.
[SPEAKER_22]: From the website, it seems like Salk is using it.
[Unidentified]: Can we go to July?
[Reggie Graham]: David? What's the other one? Up top. Yeah, what's the other one? So I wonder which field is close for construction, whether it's lower field or upper field. That's the same. But that would mean that if soccer's using it and one's close for construction, that means that they wouldn't have the ability to go on. Although the tennis courts are close for construction.
[Allan Martorana]: Right, that's a fast one.
[SPEAKER_21]: Can you click on the stopwatch and see what they have?
[Allan Martorana]: What about August?
[Reggie Graham]: Does it specify?
[John Curley]: Christian, can you go back to August? Go back to August? What place did I place it? On the calendar. No, you didn't. That was for August.
[Allan Martorana]: Well, nothing there for Sundays or in August.
[SPEAKER_10]: Hey, I know. What place is it? What about September?
[Reggie Graham]: What's in September? you know, one, seven, September, September 20th. September's open too. So, this is what I propose, we give them Morrison-Coppinger on the Saturdays, and we'll give them, we'll give them a lower field on Sundays for the six states that she's looking for.
[Reggie Graham]: Are you okay with that?
[SPEAKER_22]: Sorry, could you repeat the Saturday thing one more time?
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah, we're voting. Oh, sorry. Hold, hold, hold, hold. So what we have to offer you is this. We have Morrison Park, which is on Central Avenue for your Saturday dates, which would be June 13th to September 19th. And it looks like we can do this, the lower field at Playstead on Sundays on the six days, 6-14, 6-21, 7-12, 8-9, 8-30, and 9-20. Does that meet with your expectations?
[SPEAKER_22]: Sorry, what was the name of the new field that you said?
[Reggie Graham]: Morrison.
[SPEAKER_22]: Morrison. Morrison.
[Reggie Graham]: It's on Central Avenue.
[SPEAKER_22]: Is it like a soccer field? What is it?
[Reggie Graham]: It's a baseball field, but we've had Ultimate Frisbee there before. They have a very big open field.
[Chris Murphy]: It's an open field. They'll be parking. Probably one of the largest fields in the city.
[SPEAKER_22]: Okay. Like, is it large enough to... Absolutely.
[Chris Murphy]: Yes. Absolutely. We've had Ultimate Frisbee there every year. We have it there right now, actually.
[SPEAKER_22]: Morrison Field, off of Central. Morrison Park. Morrison Park. Yes. As long as it has, what is it? Let me do some math. I believe 90 yards long and 40 yards wide of much of grass. Does that sound about right in terms of sizing?
[Reggie Graham]: Yes, ma'am.
[SPEAKER_22]: Yeah?
[Reggie Graham]: Um, yes, ma'am.
[SPEAKER_22]: Oh, okay. Um, that's good. Sound good. It's, it's also, it's not every single Saturday from whatever dates I said, there's some dates that there's that it's there. We aren't requesting it. Um, will that, I just want to make sure we don't get charged for days that we're not using it.
[Reggie Graham]: Well, you know, the Saturdays you asked from June 30th to June to September 19. And that includes every Saturday on your email. The email says... So she's asking for 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 dates. Yeah, I sent like a list.
[Chris Murphy]: So 15 days total, correct?
[SPEAKER_22]: let me check that email so sorry I just want to make sure we don't get charged wrong because I sent Kevin a list of the fields that we actually need because there's a couple off weekends Sorry, wait. 9 for Saturdays, and then plus an additional 6 Sundays.
[Chris Murphy]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_22]: Yes.
[Chris Murphy]: We'll have 9 at Morrison and 6 at Pleistock.
[SPEAKER_22]: OK. 3 to 6 at Morrison. That should sound good. And it's the same price in everything?
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah. We don't charge more for one field than the other. We charge different dates.
[SPEAKER_22]: Perfect. Okay. That sounds good to me. I'll let my team know. Thank you so much.
[Reggie Graham]: You're quite welcome.
[SPEAKER_22]: Okay. Thank you. All right. Am I good to head off now?
[Reggie Graham]: All right. We don't want you to run out of juice.
[SPEAKER_22]: Sorry. Thank you.
[Reggie Graham]: All right. Bye.
[SPEAKER_22]: Bye-bye now.
[Reggie Graham]: Thank you. All right.
[Unidentified]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah. So let's let's go. Let's go to the next one. I think we're going to choose one out again. St. Raphael's crossing this place that upper field on May 21st. With a main date of 548. Any objections? They're all, they're all. Sorry. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. I'm not a nucleus.
[John Curley]: Is Sydney there? Is he online? Odyssey, is Odyssey there? He's not online anymore? Here he is.
[Reggie Graham]: Nick, my phone is on 3%.
[John Curley]: So I think it's going like that. Wait a minute, wait a minute. He's gone. He's gone. I think his phone's dead. Nick, are you there? Nick is not there. Let's adjudicate him anyway.
[Reggie Graham]: These are because of him. I understand it, but we want one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, ten minutes. We just eliminated the five of us. So we eliminated the 5-foot stuff. Do we have anything else? No. Where does that one go? Right there. So that was the only 5-foot? Yeah. Alright, so if he comes back on, if he... 3%. If you knew you were going to be on the phone, why... Do we have any problems with any of these things? No. No. Are we okay with this guy? You're in custody. We're okay. We're okay. Anything?
[John Curley]: No red penny.
[Reggie Graham]: If he comes back on, if he comes back on, we're okay with this. If he comes back on. Yes. Well, if he doesn't, we're going to have to call him and let him, you know, call him and tell him that we approved his permit and tell him how much he owes us. Because Kevin doesn't get the money. Kevin always gets the money. I like to get the money upfront. I'd rather give back money.
[Unidentified]: If we give back money, it's the same rate that they give us when I go.
[Reggie Graham]: People won't be coming to me asking for fraud. All right, so who are we here for?
[SPEAKER_10]: Winky face. Hi, that's me. Hello. Yes.
[SPEAKER_24]: Let's see, May 26th to August 13th, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 at Barry Potts.
[Reggie Graham]: Oh, that's unusual.
[SPEAKER_24]: We've had it in the past. I know the past couple of years, baseball was using it.
[Reggie Graham]: So since today, Christine, because we don't have our usual schedule, OK, you're going to have to ask me when we go back to that. Well, the calendar.
[SPEAKER_03]: For Barry Parker. Barry Parker.
[Reggie Graham]: Yes. The other best. So Maine, the Lion, or this?
[SPEAKER_03]: Baseball field.
[SPEAKER_24]: No, the big field.
[Reggie Graham]: Ooh. Well, it's right above it.
[SPEAKER_24]: Yeah. It's all kind of one thing.
[Chris Murphy]: What do we got in Maine? We got baseball in that line of field. How much of baseball do you use now?
[Reggie Graham]: So is this high school? No. This is youth baseball?
[John Curley]: No. Youth baseball.
[Reggie Graham]: Oh. So we can't get him married, can we, if we get him? What are the times? Do we have times for that? 5 to 8. Because we're talking about evening. 6pm to 8pm. The kids ain't going to be on there at that hour. It'd be nice to know when they're actually using battery. Baseball. 5 to 8. The end of June. 5 to 8.
[Unidentified]: 8 to 8. 5 to 8.
[Reggie Graham]: We're not too serious. So, uh, the baseball is already up. It's already in there.
[SPEAKER_29]: Sorry.
[Reggie Graham]: That was, um, so we were going from May to August.
[Chris Murphy]: I mean, baseball's over in June, isn't it? You have to lie early on this.
[SPEAKER_29]: This is June.
[Reggie Graham]: I'm sorry, July.
[Chris Murphy]: July, July, it opens up in July, huh? Yeah. Can we have camera shots on that, the baseball, to see if we're actually using it on Tuesdays and Thursdays? We could.
[Reggie Graham]: We could. So, is Haley on? Yep, still here. We're looking at Barry Park, and we have something already penciled in over there. Method Youth Baseball.
[SPEAKER_24]: OK. Yeah, it wasn't on there when I put in the request, but it definitely could have been added since. But yeah, we're open to if they're not using it, like one of the days, we'll take kind of whatever days are there. Otherwise, open to other places.
[Reggie Graham]: So when we have a conflict like this, we try to put the two parties together, or at least you know, contact both parties to find out how much use is going to be by each. And we have your dates, your days and your dates, Tuesdays and Thursdays, six to eight. I don't know that they're going to have baseball on Tuesdays and Thursdays from six to eight. And what we'd like to do is we'd like to contact them to find out whether or not they will be.
We'll be in touch with you as soon as we can. I would say Kevin's on vacation this week. Yes. So it probably won't be until the middle of next week, but it'll be long before May 26.
[SPEAKER_24]: OK, that sounds good. I can send a follow-up email end of next week, too, just to check in if that's helpful.
[Reggie Graham]: Well, like I said, he's on vacation.
[Chris Murphy]: With him, I would say yes.
[Reggie Graham]: But we'll be in touch with you on this.
[SPEAKER_24]: OK, that sounds good.
[Reggie Graham]: I don't know that we have another option for ultimate frisbee bus. Can I ask you, does everybody know about the Medford Fields in your organization? Because you're all under Buddha, and it seems like everybody seems to like us. Is it the space or is it the price?
[SPEAKER_24]: I think it's the location mostly, because I think there's a lot of people who live in like Somerville, Medford area, Cambridge.
[Reggie Graham]: We're just wondering. We might have had to raise our rates. But no, we'll be in touch.
[SPEAKER_24]: OK, sounds good.
[Reggie Graham]: All right.
[SPEAKER_24]: Thank you.
[Reggie Graham]: Thank you. All right, so this is a, uh, ask. Refugee baseball. I'm going to take other news. I want to take other news. Tuesdays and Thursday time from Sicily. And if we can put them in.
[Allan Martorana]: No. Of course, he's not on the phone.
[Reggie Graham]: So the next one, next one on the agenda is Andre's speech requesting you play baseball field on Sundays, one, two, three, four, four Sundays, June 28th, July 12th, July 26th, from five to seven. Do we have anything in that? We're going to have to get on, Kevin, about this lack of a calendar. I like to have my calendar right here so I can look at it. So we're talking about Sundays. From June, what's it called?
[Allan Martorana]: It's July.
[Reggie Graham]: June's okay? Yeah, okay. Yeah, what are you doing? What are you doing? July's good too. July's good too? Yeah. Chris! Yes? You getting any suggestions Phil? No, no Jeff. Alright. Yeah. We're okay with that one. I like that one. Andre's Chiefs haven't played their place there for some years. Andre's Chiefs haven't played their place there for some years. Only produced four digs because the field that they're using in Malden is under construction.
[John Curley]: Yeah, well, yeah. Yeah, but I remember when they won that championship, they were so, so happy because it seemed like they flexed and was paying the players to play like unprofessional baseball. It was great. Yeah. Great. I like college because it's well played and it's coming. It's good baseball.
[Reggie Graham]: It is. It is good baseball. You know, they've got a lot of guys that play. They like to play. Yeah. Absolutely.
[SPEAKER_03]: The wire's not working on the laptop. His battery is low.
[Unidentified]: Diane?
[SPEAKER_03]: It's plugged in. Can you check the power strip?
[Allan Martorana]: Were we frozen?
[SPEAKER_03]: No, the battery is low and The power strip was not on. We're good.
[Unidentified]: Mass final check.
[Reggie Graham]: Mass final check. I don't see it. Oh here it is. I'm on the call. Yeah. Good afternoon, sir. How are you doing? Good. How are you today? Not too bad. So, Monday through Wednesday is Memorial Park and we want to play softball.
[MCM00001460_SPEAKER_15]: Yeah, we can be flexible with the times too, but we've had the Monday dates in the spring for the last five years or so. We're hoping to maybe grab an extra night if you have it available. It looks free on the calendar, but I'm not sure if there's other stuff that I don't see.
[Reggie Graham]: Fridays from mid-Fourth to June 29th.
[SPEAKER_10]: Right, so... You mean Wednesday looks good for a man? That's right. He wants Fridays.
[Reggie Graham]: Okay. May. May. June. Monday's and Wednesday's. You good? Yeah. Yeah. Number 68. Any questions?
[Chris Murphy]: What's that, Shadeva? We've got Wednesday's and then we've got Shadev. That may be our fault.
[MCM00001460_SPEAKER_15]: He said he'd open with a third too.
[Chris Murphy]: Matt, did you want a third day?
[MCM00001460_SPEAKER_15]: We'd love a third day. We'll take as much as you. Fridays? Fridays are tougher for us because it's the weekend, but if you have Thursdays... I thought I said BSSC maybe on Tuesdays, but if Friday's all you got, we'll take it.
[Chris Murphy]: BSSC was open for Tuesdays and Thursdays.
[MCM00001460_SPEAKER_15]: Okay, yeah, we can take Fridays too.
[Unidentified]: I'm taking Friday. All right, so Malachowski.
[Reggie Graham]: Malachowski, Polish name, yeah. All right, sounds good. So we're gonna give you Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from May 4th to June 29th. Perfect.
[MCM00001460_SPEAKER_15]: Yeah, I'll be back in June to talk about summer permits too. So looking forward to seeing you again.
[Reggie Graham]: Let me just look at June for a second. So the thing that is another Monday, right? OK. So yeah, we're good. Perfect.
[MCM00001460_SPEAKER_15]: All right. I appreciate your help. Thank you. All right. Thanks. Hope you have a good night.
[Reggie Graham]: Okay, so United India. Now, I happen to know what that one is. I don't. It's the last one I got. Two pages. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Of course, they never come.
[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, she's not coming.
[Reggie Graham]: Dr. Dundee. We were sat in at Columbus Park, and let's see, we're requesting allowing a small bounce house. Answer is no. The answer to the bounce house is no. We don't allow bounce houses.
[Allan Martorana]: Thank you, officers. That's fine.
[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, our event I think initially it was not known that we were using bounce house. I didn't know it was ever a problem because other parks like in Lexington and Everett, they allow. And so I, we, you know, we do it in Columbus Park because of a temple is, you know, is close to the park. And our event is very family-based. It's our organization, in fact. So we get a lot of children coming and the bounce house was a hit.
So I don't know, I mean even not now, but if something can be done because as you know I've been coming annually for this event. And if some consideration can be given, because it does make a difference. And we put it right where it will not spoil the field. But it is something that the kids enjoy.
[Reggie Graham]: Dr. Gandhi? Yes. Dr. Gandhi, we've been advised by council not to allow bounce houses in the city. Okay. So we can't allow that. Okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay. All right. Okay.
[Reggie Graham]: So, you know, I'd love to accommodate you, but we're unable to. Now, the question begs, are we going to have, are we going to use between the two fields? Or, I mean, for the past couple of years, I think we've gone between the two fields. Do you still want to move the stands out of the way?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we have, we use the part where there's the asphalt walkway. We put the tables there. But even that, it just seems to separate the event. We do the, you know, like a small concert or like little performances in the main field on one side. But when we put the tables, the vendor tables, which this year I don't think are going to be that many, when we put them on the asphalt, it really, because we are not such a big event, It really separates the event. So, I don't know, is there any suggestion that we can do to use the periphery where the fence is, but on the inside and just keep a few tables. Our tables are not the ones with the legs. They have the flat end where it doesn't spoil the, you know, floor and they just have canopies if it's hot.
[Unidentified]: I don't know if they have summer softball there. I don't think there's any softball in August.
[SPEAKER_29]: So doctor, I think that we can probably
[Reggie Graham]: think you can probably accommodate you on one of those fields probably the softball field rather than the baseball field okay which one is that the because the one that as you're looking from your temple yeah it would be on your left hand side yeah that's the one we've been using yeah and um one year there was some uh some coloring we're not going to use that it's
[SPEAKER_00]: So let me understand correctly. Is it okay to put the tables on the periphery, on the inside? As long as we are not in the main, you know, where the sand is.
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah, I think that should be okay. There won't be any softball being played there. There won't be any coloring of the grass this year, will there?
[SPEAKER_00]: No, there's no coloring. No, that event is over. Oh, okay. Yeah, no, this is just like a, you know, a summer fest where they just like, yeah, they just mostly families come and hang out, you know, and just have some, you know, like fun. some dancing and some you know we play some games if we don't we are not allowed the bounce house we'll organize some games but i've always wanted to do a little bit like carnival style but you know we are restricted with the the bounce house and things like that i don't know if there are any other suggestions that they allow in medford well we'll give you the day from three to seven
[Reggie Graham]: We'll let you go on the field.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you very much. I really appreciate you considering that.
[Reggie Graham]: Wonderful.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's nice to see you all again.
[Reggie Graham]: Likewise, I'm sure.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for giving us the permission. Really appreciate it.
[SPEAKER_10]: All right. Thank you.
[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you. Have a wonderful night.
[Reggie Graham]: You too, now.
[Reggie Graham]: All right, so we've got five left. The flaming croissants.
[SPEAKER_10]: 11 we get. We get a lot. Oh, so that's, oh. Then we put a check left over there.
[Allan Martorana]: Well, it was fun.
[Unidentified]: It was a lot of fun, yeah.
[SPEAKER_03]: Nick is back. I'm fine. It's David Ferguson.
[Chris Murphy]: We've got 72 of such a code within one page. It's definitely ours. Ah, I'm running out of differences.
[Allan Martorana]: Is this the person that we're seeing Mr. Ferguson before?
[Reggie Graham]: Is anybody?
[Chris Murphy]: Yeah, I'm here.
[Reggie Graham]: How are you doing, Mr. Ferguson? How are you doing? Very good. How are you? Now, let's see. There are days from 6 to 8 at Blysted. Blysted Park. Yeah.
[SPEAKER_28]: lower field in, uh, you know, just in July. So my understanding is that, you know, soccer would be, you know, done with their summer season by then. All right. Spring season by then.
[Reggie Graham]: July. There is this empty. All right. The whole July.
[Allan Martorana]: If there is evidence, what's your left empty? Any questions?
[Chris Murphy]: Can we just look at the four Thursdays, basically?
[SPEAKER_28]: It would be five, so the second, second, ninth, sixteenth.
[Reggie Graham]: You already have victory reserves? No, that would be a separate team.
[SPEAKER_28]: We have done victory on Tuesdays in the past, but we're not going to do that this year.
[Reggie Graham]: You'd rather place it?
[SPEAKER_28]: Yeah, we'll be doing it just placed on Thursdays this year.
[Reggie Graham]: Mr. Ferguson, you are all set. Kevin will be in touch for your insurance information in your bill. How's that?
[SPEAKER_28]: Sounds great.
[Reggie Graham]: Have a great season, sir.
[SPEAKER_28]: All right. Thank you. All right.
[Unidentified]: All right. Fossil Steel Sports Memorial Club.
[Reggie Graham]: I don't know why they want to go one. I never could understand that. Field 1 is the one that floods.
[Unidentified]: Okay.
[Reggie Graham]: I know nobody else wants Field 1.
[SPEAKER_10]: I think we're the closest to the top of them all. But there's another 500 outside of 2. Yeah, that one's close.
[Chris Murphy]: We'll see. It's basically the same one that everybody's gonna sell.
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah. Yeah. There's the 6930 and the L'Oreal and Topset. I'm going to go ahead and read some books about this.
[Unidentified]: He's one of them, I don't know if you have seen what he does already on the calendar. I was looking at the other book.
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah, well, these guys are a beach. The world came across the sea to build a ship here.
[Allan Martorana]: And I involved Stig Peltier.
[SPEAKER_13]: And Danny Bollinger.
[Unidentified]: That's the one that's overgrown. So the one that runs up on the dark rock?
[Reggie Graham]: So we want 12 to three on Saturdays and Sundays from June. June, well, that's May 2nd, May 3rd. And July 3rd, July 9th, July 30th, we want the place to be. Boston Ultimate, just an alliance, Boston Ultimate.
[Unidentified]: I think this was Sam.
[Reggie Graham]: Sam was only looking for Juneau. And then Shanine Shatterbrick was looking for Monday, the month of July. So let's see, let's look at Tufts Park Field 4, which is probably open. But it's only for two days. So it's like a tournament or something like that? Must be. So, uh... May... 2nd... May 3rd. So they're open, right? Saturday and Sunday? Yeah. I wish they were on the thing so we could ask them, because I...
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, is this for Sam Farnsworth? Yes. I am here. Oh, geez. Well, good afternoon. How are you? Doing good. Doing good. Sorry.
[Reggie Graham]: We had a bunch of people.
[SPEAKER_01]: No, yeah, that's I was like, I think I couldn't tell if you were calling me to come in or not. Um, I put in for two different dates just on the chance that one of them was needed for somebody else. This is just for a one day event. I'm just getting together. It's one of my friend's birthdays, and I was going to book a field to have a field day for him for a few hours to just come out, have a couple of different field games that we play. So that's why I put in for field for over two days, just in case one of them was booked already.
[Reggie Graham]: What phone would you prefer? So either one of them or both. So you want to use them both for a rain date?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's fine to have the rain date just in case.
[Reggie Graham]: How do you like that? You like that?
[SPEAKER_01]: It's perfect for me. Thank you.
[Reggie Graham]: All right. You will tell us which day you use, right?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'll let you know which one we end up using. Week of, I'll send an email to Kevin saying, hey, looks like the weather's good for X or Y date.
[Reggie Graham]: Wonderful, wonderful. Okay, so you do know that you have to have insurance showing that the city of Medford has an additional insured?
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, you're asking about the Frisbee folks. I'm actually the director of operations for the Boston Ultimate Disc Alliance. So I'm where a lot of them come to get their insurance coverage.
[Reggie Graham]: Oh, so you know all about this. Okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I know all about it. I'll send an email and maybe I'll talk to you all about our field use with you all in the near future so that we can advise our community when they're booking fields and maybe work something out that's a little less confusing than having 10, 15 different people come in and ask him for the same thing.
[Reggie Graham]: Mr. Farnsworth, if you would do that for us, we would be greatly appreciative.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, I'll send an email to Kevin when I get out from coaching tonight and we'll sort something out.
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah, because we can look at that and we can cross out dates that you're not going to have. We're not going to be able to have because somebody else already has them. And when it comes to us, we can pretty much just OK them.
[SPEAKER_01]: Great, yeah. I'll plan a meeting so that we can make this a little bit of an easier process on both people's side.
[Reggie Graham]: That's wonderful. Thank you very much, Sarah.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, have a great one.
[Reggie Graham]: All right. Bye.
[SPEAKER_29]: So is that approved or do we have to wait for his official date? Is that approved or do we have to wait for an official date?
[John Curley]: Okay, last but not least, Kevin. Good evening, I'm here.
[SPEAKER_20]: I also happen to know Nick from Odyssey. I think he has been waiting to get back into the call. I don't know if he still is.
[Reggie Graham]: Yeah, well, he said his phone was dying.
[SPEAKER_20]: Yeah, I think since then he might have resolved that and might be waiting to get back in. I don't know if he still is, though.
[Reggie Graham]: We don't see him. But if you have his number, you can call him and tell him Maybe we have his number. Anyway, you'd like to use PlayState Park upper field on July, from July 9th to July 30th.
[SPEAKER_20]: Yep. Just the four days.
[Reggie Graham]: Chris, there we go. Look at Christine. She's getting good at this.
[Chris Murphy]: It's a lot longer.
[SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
[Reggie Graham]: This is July 3rd. So who's going to be on Wall Street? We just want the other board up. Want the other one? Okay.
[Unidentified]: I'm going to look for you in a few months.
[Reggie Graham]: You know something? I have to ask you something. Sure. Do you have these plates?
[SPEAKER_20]: Yes. Metal, please? No, definitely not. Plastic. Plastic, please. Yep, just plastic. Metal isn't allowed, actually.
[John Curley]: We've got two people. Oh, OK. All right.
[Reggie Graham]: Any questions? No.
[SPEAKER_04]: No.
[Reggie Graham]: No questions? Nope? Good.
[SPEAKER_20]: All right, we can give you those four dates. Perfect. Thank you so much.
[Reggie Graham]: You're aware of the insurance requirement and so on and so forth?
[SPEAKER_20]: Yes, sir.
[Reggie Graham]: All right, well, Kevin will be in touch with you and give you the bill and everything else that's necessary.
[SPEAKER_20]: Sounds good. And actually, Nick just texted me saying that he is, in fact, waiting to be let into the call.
[Allan Martorana]: He's in the waiting room.
[John Curley]: He's in the waiting room.
[SPEAKER_29]: I don't know where that is.
[John Curley]: Let go of that.
[Chris Murphy]: How he gets out of the waiting room, I don't know.
[John Curley]: The waiting rooms. Well, we'll figure it out. We'll look at it in the station. We'll look. We'll look. Go where it says six.
[SPEAKER_13]: Where?
[John Curley]: It says six. Click that. It's not six people. It could be a wait. Never mind. Oh, the student has become the teacher. Thank you. Nick, are you here, sir? Yes, I'm here. Hello. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. I'm here. All right. So while you were, while you were juicing up, um, we approved your dates.
[SPEAKER_19]: Okay, I also can't see anyone. I'm not sure if that's.
[Reggie Graham]: We only got one screen and it only shows me.
[SPEAKER_19]: Okay, no problem. No problem. Thank you for approving the dates. Are there any questions that you had of me?
[Reggie Graham]: No, we don't have any questions. We will send you the information as far as your permit. and Kevin will send you the bill and you will send him your information. Enjoy the season.
[SPEAKER_19]: All right. Thank you. Have a good night.
[Unidentified]: All right, guys. Bye now.
[SPEAKER_10]: Did we do shooting? Yeah, we just popped the shoot. I mean, I thought you were going to let me know. I was like, listen, I'm stuck, you know. I'm telling you. You know, they don't think we did it. Thank you very much.
